Six sectors, one watershed

Douglas County runs on timber, farm ground, water, rock, and the infrastructure tying them together. These are the places aerial imagery earns its cost here — not a generic national list.

01 / Forestry

Forestry & Timberland

Roseburg calls itself the Timber Capital of the World, and the ground proves it. Steep, roaded, and frequently a long walk from anywhere you can park.

Aerial imagery covers a unit in an afternoon that would take a cruiser days to traverse — and produces a dated visual record instead of recollection. That matters for replant verification, for documenting conditions under the Oregon Forest Practices Act, and for knowing what a unit looked like before a storm, a slide, or a fire moved through it.

Common requests

  • Replant survival and stocking imagery
  • Post-harvest unit documentation
  • Road, landing, and skid trail condition records
  • Blowdown and storm damage assessment imagery
  • Fire scar and salvage planning imagery
  • Stand vigor and decline patterning
  • Riparian buffer visual documentation
  • Property and boundary context imagery

02 / Agriculture

Agriculture & Viticulture

The Umpqua Valley floor carries vineyards, orchards, pasture, and row crop — often in small, irregular blocks where variability inside a single planting is the whole story.

Index imagery turns that variability into something you can look at. A block that reads uniform from the road frequently isn't, and the pattern of where it isn't usually points straight at the cause: an irrigation line, a drainage issue, a soil change, a pest pocket.

Common requests

  • Vineyard and orchard vigor mapping imagery
  • Irrigation coverage and failure patterns
  • Crop stress detection ahead of visible symptoms
  • Stand and plant count assessment imagery
  • Seasonal documentation across a growing cycle
  • Pasture and grazing condition records
  • Storm, flood, and frost damage documentation
  • Property and operation marketing footage
03 / Watershed

Watershed & Restoration

The North and South Umpqua drain a large, steep basin into one of Oregon's major river systems, and restoration work here is grant-funded, monitored, and reported on for years afterward.

Nearly all of that reporting wants the same thing: a clear, dated, geolocated picture of a stream reach or a project site, taken the same way each time. Getting that on foot in a brushed-in riparian corridor is slow and often not possible at all. From the air it's routine.

Common requests

  • Pre- and post-project restoration imagery
  • Riparian corridor and buffer documentation
  • Culvert and fish passage structure imagery
  • Large wood placement documentation
  • Bank erosion and channel migration records
  • Planting establishment and survival imagery
  • Flood and high-water event documentation
  • Visual documentation for grant reporting

04 / Construction

Construction & Land Development

From a single-lot build to a multi-phase site, the questions are the same: what does it look like right now, what did it look like last month, and can I show someone without driving them out here.

Milestone Progress Records

The same flight plan reflown on a schedule, so progress imagery lines up frame to frame for owner reporting and draw requests.

Pre-Construction Baselines

Existing site condition documented before mobilization — the record that settles questions about what was already there.

Site Context & Planning

Current aerial imagery of a parcel and its surroundings for planning, permitting packages, and public meetings.

Marketing & Handover

Finished-project photography and video for portfolios, proposals, and listings, shot when the site actually looks its best.

On earthwork quantities

Cut/fill and stockpile volume figures are measurement work that Oregon reserves for registered professionals. I capture the imagery those calculations are built from and deliver it to your surveyor or engineer — or bring one in under contract if you don't have one. Ask about that arrangement.

05 / Aggregate

Aggregate, Quarry & Blasting

Active pits are among the worst places to put a person with a camera and among the best places for a drone: benches change weekly, faces are unstable, and nothing about the geometry is convenient from the ground.

Blast documentation is its own discipline. The event lasts a couple of seconds, can't be repeated, and the standoff has to be worked out with the blaster in charge well before anyone is on site. Planned properly, you come away with pre-shot face imagery, high-frame-rate video of the shot, and a post-shot pass over the muck pile.

Common requests

  • Bench and highwall face documentation
  • Pre- and post-blast site imagery
  • High-frame-rate blast video
  • Stockpile and yard visual records
  • Haul road and infrastructure condition
  • Reclamation progress documentation
  • Periodic site condition records
  • Imagery packages for permitting files
06 / Utilities

Utilities & Infrastructure

Linear assets are a bad fit for ground inspection and a natural fit for a drone flying a corridor.

Right-of-Way Documentation

Corridor imagery along transmission, distribution, and pipeline routes, including access road condition through difficult terrain.

Vegetation Encroachment

Visual records of canopy encroaching on conductors and clearance corridors — the documentation that drives trim scheduling.

Solar Array Inspection

Panel surface imagery across an array without walking rows, plus site vegetation and fence line condition.

Structures & Towers

Close-range imagery of poles, towers, and mounted equipment from angles that a ground camera or a climb can't easily produce.

Don't see your sector?

The list above is where the local demand is, not a limit. If you've got a site and a question about it, describe it and I'll tell you whether aerial capture is the right tool — including when it isn't.
